A lot of the slopes are tree-lined and there are numerous small cosy bars and traditional style restaurants. Most of the runs are North facing so they hold the snow extremely well, and the majority of the skiing is above 1600 metres, so although the resorts are not traditionally considered high altitude, the skiing continues until late in the season.

Because of its location on the western edge of the Alps, the Portes du Soleil has one of the best snowfall records in Europe.

Alternatively, included in the Portes du Soleil region, but not linked, there is the opportunity to ski in the delightful area of Cret Beni (La Chapelle d'Abondance) with its green and blue runs ideal for beginners and families with young children, as it is impossible to get lost.
